On page optimization refers to factors that will affect your website or the website page listing. These factors may be controlled by the coding of the page and may include the Meta tags, HTML code, Keyword placement and the keyword density.


Use of Key Words

Using the keywords correctly on the entire page is one of the secrets that can help improve the ranking of the page. The keyword Meta tag located in the in the header section is obviously the first thing that will critically determine how the page will be ranked. The keyword must be carefully selected and must be relevant to the page.  It should be placed in the Meta Keyword Tag.  Ensure that the initial letter of the key word is capitalized. Similarly, the same keyword needs to be placed strategically in the title as well the Meta description of the page.  The search engine relies on the title and the description as a summary of what the page is all about. Thus, placing the keywords in positions will help optimize the page. Note that it is necessary that the keywords be used throughout the page but should sound as natural as possible. If the keyword was well chosen, it will be easy to distribute it throughout the page.


The search engine pays more attention to the first 200 words on any given page. Using the keywords appropriately near the top of the page and proportionately throughout the page can give the desired results.


The keywords must also be used in the anchor text – link text especially if your goal is to improve the ranking of the page on the search engine. The heading should briefly describe the subject matter of the content.


Optimizing the Meta Tags

To improve on the page ranking, it is important to optimize the Meta tags. Remember the Meta tags are essential part of your web page HTML.  The search engines will read them even though   they are not included as part of the page content. Just ensure that you include the relevant keywords. Most of the Meta tags should be included within the html code of the site. They include the robot tags, title, and description. Today’s search engines have changed their algorithms and consider the title and the description important.

It is a fact that the Meta description and the title tag must include the keyword that is relevant to the content found on the page.  The length and the order of the words or characters is also vital.  Remember the search engine robots read from left to write and words appearing first are thought to be more important than those that come last.


Meta Description Tag


This is a description tag that should be written in such a way that it briefly describes the information contained on the website. The sentences must be short and clear and should not confuse the visitors. Ensure that the description is less than 200 characters. The description is important to the visitor because it makes the prospective visitor to pick on your page and not other pages on the search engine.




HTML code refers to a number of things that must be done on your webpage to optimize it. One must consider the fonts to use, the links to include in the page, the symbols to use, images to use, CSS, lists, frames, applets and many more.  Using the tags and other attributes that links to the page is key in web page optimization. 4. Clear and Obvious Contact Information

Contact information (as well as areas served, if applicable) should be easily visible on each page. Convenient links to the very important Contact Form are also a good idea. Or better yet – have a contact form on nearly every page.

5. Title Tags

Every page needs a unique title tag that describes the page in no more than 60 characters. Include the keyword phrase for that page, as well as cities for local on-page SEO.

6. Meta Description

Reflecting the title tag and page content, create a meta description (also containing the keyword phrase) that will show up in search engine results. People should want to click over to your site when they read this short (156 characters ) burst of text, so be inspiring and energetic in your word choice.

7. Incorporate Rich Media

Though great written content is necessary, people who visit your site will not be impressed if words are all they see. Do not be boring. Too much text is unappealing and overwhelming.

Pictures do more than create an attractive appearance; they are also important for on-page SEO. Each image should have a file name that is a search phrase, and an equally appropriate alt tag with the keyword phrase and cities included – just as you did with the page title tags.

There are three main areas you should focus on when building your web presence.

Any good recipe relies not just on the ingredients themselves, but on proper proportions and measurements.

I could talk all day about the 200+ ranking signals that many believe are (or should be) factors in the algorithms, or the 600+ web marketing actions that I believe make for an effective web presence. But those things have already been talked about and sufficiently debated.

Instead, I want to talk about the three primary components of building a sustainable web presence. Just about all aspects of web marketing fall into these three areas.

And while we can often get caught up on the details of what to do and why, sometimes taking a step back to look at the bigger picture helps us to gain perspective and better understand why certain tasks are more important than others.

I cannot stress enough how important website architecture is for effective web marketing. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most overlooked things when it comes to building one’s web presence.

As an SEO since 1998, I’ve had countless businesses come to us after having their site developed, now ready to move into the “web marketing” phase. Unfortunately, they aren’t aware that what happens before and during the website development is just as important for web marketing as what happens after the site rolls out to the world.

These businesses are often shocked when we tell them that we have to go back and, essentially, re-develop the site so that it’s search engine friendly. Why? Because many web developers are not doing the right things.

There are two basic components to a good site architecture: 1) what’s good for the search engines and, 2) what’s good for the visitors. While doing what’s good for visitors is usually also good for search engines, there are other components, invisible to the visitor, that helps the search engines read, assess and value the pages of your site.
