Summary
SOM was called in to help Aconbury by one of the local web design companies we work with as they had seen their Google rankings plummet over time. This could have been to do with the Panda update, but the examination of the facts showed that the site had perhaps been living on 'borrowed time' as it's pages did not 'explain themselves' to the Engines in the correct manner, plus the site had a low level of back links. As both of these are normally vital (there is always the exception to prove the law) it was not surprising that the rankings and traffic had decreased
The Solution
There was only a limited budget available, so the keyword targets had to be carefully chosen as we could not, initially at least, chase rankings for a huge number of keywords. We therefore carried out a highly targeted piece of keyword research, a small number of keywords then being chosen as targets.
Details of how to 'weave' these words into the pages were provided (at the time of writing this still had not been done) and the link building campaign started.

The Results
The main target was to get their page one position back for their key term 'wheatgrass' as this had been lost over the previous months. Not only was this target achieved, but fast too, in just three months the site not only regaining a Page 1 rank, but getting to the number 2 position.
As to the number of visits, well these have not increased in huge numbers, but they have started to get more visits for their main key phrases such as 'wheatgrass', 'sprouting seeds' as well as others like 'superfoods'.
Long Tail Keyword Numbers Increase by over 100%
Most importantly perhaps is the increase in the number of different search terms that are bringing people into the site. This is an important fact as it demonstrates that the site has a large 'footprint' on the Engine's databases. This causes it to be listed for more and more diverse (and yet related and relevant) search terms, which in turn will lead to more sales, perhaps from a group of customers they would never otherwise have been found by?
Conclusion
In this instance the improvements were solely down to the increased number of links to the site, the On Page SEO not being implemented (as yet). This demonstrates the power of the link in a very useful manner. Who knows what rankings the site will achieve when the second part (the On Page SEO) of this vital equation is completed...
